Art and Music....just like an ordinary day!

Well well well, having finished a new art collection aaaaages ago I felt it was about time to share it with the world!

It comprises of six pieces which are directly inspired by certain songs. Some of the pieces are a very literal representation of the song lyrics, some are more the imagery the songs inspire.

The six song I did were:-

In Dreams - Roy Orbison
Don't Fear The Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John
Blue Velvet - Bobby Vinton
You Never Can Tell - Chuck Berry
Invincible - Muse

In Dreams - Roy Orbison

" A candy-coloured clown they call the sandman
Tiptoes to my room every night
Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper:
'Go to sleep, everything is alright' "

-------------------------------------

Don't Fear The Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult

"Then the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew and then disappeared
The curtains flew and then he appeared"

--------------------------------------------

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John

"Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I've finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road"

-----------------------------------------------

Blue Velvet - Bobby Vinton

"She wore blue velvet
Bluer than velvet was the night
Softer than satin was the light
From the stars
She wore blue velvet
Bluer than velvet were her eyes"

--------------------------------------------------

You Never Can Tell - Chuck Berry

"They bought a souped-up jitney,
'Twas a cherry red '53
They drove it down to Orleans
To celebrate their anniversary"

-------------------------------------------------

Invincible - Muse

"During the struggle
They will pull us down
But please, please
Let's use this chance
To turn things around
And tonight
We can truly say
Together we're invincible"

And that's that! Hope you like them, I enjoyed doing them. Now I've just started my fourth piece from my new collection so watch this space!

Live and enjoy!

Been a while!

Well it has been a while since my last blog coz I've been sooooo busy!

I got married on May 12th, which was really good, we had a good day! Everyone seemed genuinely really happy for us and everyone (just about) behaved themselves, coz that was a worry leading up to the wedding! Was nice to get a bit closer to certain people and on the whole I think the day has actually done some good for certain people. The weather stayed sunny which was a treat considering it had POURED down all week up until the day before!
A few things did go wrong that shouldn't have but I think we did a pretty good job of keeping the problems away from the guests, and we managed to put them aside as to not ruin anything. All in all, a good day!

Since I was off work for 2 weeks after the wedding I did our spare room out (as I said I would in my previous blog) making it in to a space to work. And I must say it looks very good, and is very nice to work in! Means I get a bit more work done! Although I do need a new chair as the one I've got is mega uncomfortable after a while! Not good for my concentration...or my arse!

I'm back to work now (unfortunately) and for some reason my boss who does the weekly rotas keeps putting me on the most physical job every week! And I'm so small as well! Still, keeps me fit I suppose...

I've also decided now that everything is out of the way and I've got a bit more time I can get my website sorted and up and running, so plan Get-Gem-Out-The-Hellhole-Office-And-Selling-Art-Full-Time is back on!

Anyhoooo have a good weekend all!

Getting my rear in gear!

Right then, time to get myself in gear! I've got a lot to do over the next few weeks (and that's not even including getting married!) so I'm going to write myself a list so I can tick off what I've done!

  • Write the information for my leaflet
  • Finish designing the leaflet and get them printed off
  • Create more little creatures
  • Get the spare room cleared and painted (after wedding) and get some shelves to stick my art gear on, generally organise!
  • More art, lots more art
Hopefully I'm not forgetting anything. Anyhoo, I'm kinda giving myself 6 weeks and hopefully everything will have taken off...watch this space!

Jiving with the hedgehogs!

Weeelllllllll, it's twenty past seven and I'm cold and feel ill BUT in front of me I have my hedgehog minions... Three of them to be precise.

More specifically in words that make sense, I have taken a break from my latest art collection today and made 3 clay hedgehogs! I have to wait for them to dry before I can paint them but they're still looking kinda cute just sitting there.

Hopefully they'll be on sale tomorrow for anyone who wants some little hedgehog friends!

Right now though I medically need some tea and my hot water bottle! Night all!

First blog!

Morning all, this is my first blog! Yeah!

At the moment I work part time on a morning and then come home and start work as an artist on the afternoon doing commissioned pieces, collections etc. I am hoping though to soon be able to focus 100% on being a full time freelance artist!  You only get one life after all and you should try and do the things that you want to do!

At the moment I am working on the second piece of my new collection, 'Welcome To The Circus', but it's pretty slow going at the the minute. I'm getting married in five weeks so time and concentration have been a bit compromised! Still, I'll get there in the end!

Anyhoo, I'm off to do a bit more work so have a good Easter all! And eat an egg for me (I don't really eat chocolate) :)

ps. here's an easter bunny for you, drawn by my own fair hands!
